Discos are preparing our youth for the reaction speeds necessary for World War 3

Non so quante persone la fuori possa interessare ma questa intervista di The Wire a Kode9 (scopritore di Burial e fondatore dell'etichetta Hyperdub) è una vera miniera di valide riflessioni. Non a caso Steve Goodman, suo vero nome, non è solo musicista e dj ma anche scrittore e docente universitario. Presto uscirà un suo libro intitolato Sonic Warfare proprio sulla tematica del suono utilizzato come strumento di conquista di spazio, non necessariamente in ambito bellico. Tra le tante cose ecco un paio di dichiarazioni, la prima riguardo il tema del futuro da fantascienza che la letteratura degli anni 60 ci aveva promesso e che poi non è mai arrivato se non proprio nella musica di un'etichetta come la Hyperdub:

Instead of the some weird, dystopian notion of the future, we’re in that, you don’t have to get to that future, it’s here. But I think what’s still interesting a valid is futurism is just a desire to make and hear something, and combine and synthesize things that will produce new sensations, new feelings, new rhythms. That’s the core of futurism for me, not some fantasy of how the future is going to be like. It’s more just that impetus to experience new stuff, which is obviously part of the logic of capitalism these days as well.

La seconda riguarda la jungle: genere da sempre vituperato, morto e sepolto che non smette però di essere tirata in ballo dai più, generando continuamente nuovi figli illegittimi:

Jungle and two-step, these rhythmic singularities, the way you experience them is as possession… and it’s mathematical information, and you spend five years trying to decode this signal. And this processes of decoding might involve making it, writing about it…. curiosity is the symptom of the fact that you need to work out what the fuck happened.
